My Senior Project

The 8th Annual CubeSat Workshop turned out to be incredibly successful! We had over 300 attendees from 14 different countries attend our three day event! The banquet, which I had the pleasure of planning, was certainly one of the highlights of the conference. It began with a cocktail hour followed by volleyball and bocce ball. We then had a mexican buffet which turned out to be very popular and that was followed by a presentation from a NASA astronaut and awards to Boeing and Raython for their generous donations to the workshop.

Throughout the three days, guests were given the opportunity to sit in on dozens of presentations about updates from people involved in the CubeSat community. Additionally, all presentations were streamed live online so people that were not fortunate enough to attend the event, could still be involved.

This Senior Project was one of a kind and I truly feel lucky to have been involved with such an amazing group of people that provided me with the opportunity to help plan this international workshop.

Communication Studies Club's Annual Career Symposium

Over the past two quarters, I have had the pleasure of planning the 23rd Annual Career Symposium for the Communication Studies Club. I planned everything from the budget to creating, printing, and selling tickets to purchasing speaker and raffle tickets to working with the venue's Event Coordinator to selecting the decorations to deciding on the menu to picking the color scheme. It was more work than expected but it provided me with an opportunity to hone in my event planning and leadership skills. The event was from 9:30 am til 2:30 pm and consisted of six speakers who graduated with a Communication Studies degree from Cal Poly. Their careers covered everything from sales to event marketing to media relations. Over 75 people bought tickets for the Career Symposium and I am so thankful that I could plan an event that inspired so many undergraduate students! The event was incredibly successful this year and I was provided with a lot of positive feedback following the event. The club's advisor, fellow executive board members, and classmates alike told that the marketing strategy I utilized had a positive relationship with ticket sales and that I started planning every last detail of the event earlier than people ever have in the past. Upon the conclusion of the event, my advisor let me know that next year's Event Coordinator will have tough shoes to fill.

Planning The Career Symposium

As the Event Coordinator for the Communication Studies Club, I have the privilege of planning the Career Symposium. The event is next Sunday and I have been working on it since September. This weekend was spent driving all around town to get ready for the big day. Planning the Career Symposium has been such a great opportunity for me to improve my time management and communication skills, my ability to create and stick to a budget, and has encouraged me to think outside of the box.

My room is currently filled with over a dozen vases and the necessary items to make flower arrangements, gifts for the presenters, and the materials to create take away folders for all who attend. This event has been more work than expected, but I have loved every minute of it!

Senior Project Progress

Over the past few weeks, I have been researching online and calling dozens of local venues in hopes of finding the perfect location for the CubeSat banquet in April. All of my hard work paid off when I came across Avila Beach Golf Resort.

Today, I had the pleasure of meeting with Destini, the Event Coordinator, at Avila Beach Golf Course at to discuss the CubeSat banquet. The property is absolutely stunning and I know that this event will be exquisite. More updates will come as the process gets underway. Until then, here are some pictures from my visit.

My Fifteenth and Final Wedding

Last weekend was the last wedding for my internship. William and Nicole got married on Saturday, October 23rd. They had a beautiful beach wedding with a bit of Texan flare.

My Thirteenth and Fourteenth Weddings

This past weekend was one hectic yet memorable weekend with weddings at Sycamore. On Saturday, Becky and Tony got married. Their colors were black, white and red. They had a candy bar and a Tequila shaped cake along with many personalized items including chapsticks, magnets, and cocktail napkins.











On Sunday, Dani and Ryan had a beach themed wedding. They had lots of candles spread throughout the room which added an intimate touch to the reception in addition to blue and white accented rocks and shells.

Event Planning On Campus

Ever since I began my internship, I have wanted to get more involved in event planning on the Cal Poly campus. With that being said, I ran for the Event Coordinator position for the Communication Studies Club Board and I got it! For this position, I am in charge of planning several events but the two that I am most excited about are the Annual Career Symposium and the Spring Banquet. For the Career Symposium, I get the pleasure of working with my internship director in putting on a brunch and workshop at Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort. I get to decide everything from the colors to the theme. I also get to assist in picking the speakers, all of whom are Cal Poly Communication Studies graduates. I will collaborate with a graphic design student to create the tickets and flyers. I will also be the main contact person for ticket sales. Finally, I will be the one to come up with the thank you gifts for the speakers and amenities for the guests. As for the Spring Banquet, I will be in charge of booking the venue (which is traditionally at a golf course in Avila Beach), picking the menu, booking a d.j., coming up with colors, themes, and decorations. I will also be in charge of promoting the event and coming up with awards for the extraordinary Seniors.

When it came to picking a Senior Project, I knew I wanted to plan an event. After talking to countless Communication majors who have already completed their Senior Project, I decided to take part in planning the 8th Annual CubeSat Workshop at Cal Poly. I, along with two other Senior Communication Studies majors, will be planning a three day workshop with a $50,000 budget. We will be in change of everything from fundraising to PR to planning the banquet at one of the local hotels with over a $15,000 budget!

I am incredibly excited about both of these positions because I am getting to be creative and think of new ways to make these annual events better than ever before.

My Twelfth Wedding

This past weekend I had two weddings and Michele and Johnny's was certainly a high note to end on. This radiant couple went with a nature/forest theme for their special day. They had several nice touches that are rare to weddings: cupcakes instead of a cake, a wishing tree, stars hanging from the ceiling, and flip flops for all guests so that they can all dance the night away.
